University Committees

A summary of each University Committee appears below. For a complete description of each committee, please see Section 12 of the Mines Faculty Handbook.

 
Athletic Board
 
The Athletic Board deals with matters of intercollegiate athletic policy. The membership includes the Faculty Athletic Representative, the Athletic Director, and a presidential representative. For more information about the committee contact presoffice@mines.edu.
 
 
Board of Student Publications
 
The Board of Student Publications acts in an advisory capacity to the editorial staffs of the various student publications and to the Associated Students of Colorado School of Mines Council on matters pertaining to student publications. For more information about the committee contact the Chairperson, Dr. Toni Lefton, Senior Lecturer, Liberal Arts and International Studies, at 303-384-2332 or at tlefton@mines.edu.
 
 
Budget Committee
 
The Budget Committee is responsible for gathering and analyzing appropriate data regarding the School’s budget, preparing the School’s annual budget and revising it as necessary, and advising the administration on budgetary matters and long-range fiscal planning. The committee is chaired by the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. For more information about the committee contact Jean Yeager at 303-273-3240 or at jyeager@mines.edu.
 
 
Faculty Handbook Committee
 
The Faculty Handbook Committee is responsible for reviewing the Handbook on a regular basis and proposing amendments for consideration. The Committee is chaired by the Associate Provost and Dean of Faculty. For more information about the committee contact Jennie Kenney at 303-273-3399 or at jkenney@mines.edu.
 
 
Safety Committee
 
The Safety Committee is responsible for reviewing the School’s safety practices and advising the administration on issues pertaining to the safety of Mines’ students, employees and facilities. The Committee is chaired by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. Student Conduct Appeals Board
 
The Student Conduct Appeals Board provides a pool of potential members to serve on student appeal committees. The Committee is chaired by the Vice President for Student Life. For more information about the committee contact Jen Haight at 303-273-3231 or at jhaight@mines.edu.
 
 
Calendar Committee
 
The Calendar Committee is responsible for establishing an official academic calendar for the School. The Committee is chaired by the Associate Provost and Dean of Faculty. For more information about the committee contact Jennie Kenney at 303-273-3399 or at jkenney@mines.edu.
 
 
Promotion and Tenure Committee
 
The Promotion and Tenure Committee is responsible for evaluating the qualifications of all candidates for promotion and/or tenure and all candidates for tenured employment and providing recommendations thereon to the Provost. The Provost appoints the chairperson of the Promotion and Tenure Committee. For more information contact the current chairperson, Dr. Carl Mitcham, Professor of Liberal Arts and International Studies, at 303-273-3648 or at cmitcham@mines.edu.
 
 
Biosafety Committee
 
The Biosafety Committee is responsible for advising the President and campus community concerning institutional control of biohazardous agents used in teaching and research. The committee is chaired by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety. For more information contact bokane@mines.edu.
 
 
Sustainability Committee

Academic Assessment Committee
