Output from all CCIT printers must be picked up and paid for at the printing site. Print cards, which provide a discount off the regular per page charges, may be purchased at the front desk. These may be used for printouts from Boyd and Gutenberg. All printouts must be purchased, including those with spelling, formatting, or other user errors. Users who do not pick up printouts or refuse to pay for output they have generated may be encumbered and/or lose their printing privileges. Additional printers are available in some teaching labs for in-class use only. Print queues and printouts for these printers are managed and distributed only during class time by faculty members teaching in the lab. Class printouts sent to any CCIT central printer located at the front desk of the Computer Commons must still be purchased.
Printers can be accessed from Windows or Unix systems in CCIT computer labs. Features available vary depending on the system or application you are using when you generate the printout. From Windows-based PCs, you will generally select the Print option from within the application you are using. When the print panel is displayed, choose the printer you want to send your output to from the pull down list. Be sure to select the appropriate options on this panel. Press the Properties button for advanced options. Use the Print Preview option, if it is available, to verify margins and check how the output will look before you send the print request and are committed to paying for it. Common print options to consider include:
- Number of Copies
- Portrait or landscape mode
- Print all pages in the document, the current page, or a range of pages
- Paper type (media) and source
- Duplex printing (if appropriate - flip along short side or long side)
- Print quality or Resolution
- Select "Print"
- Select the printer name from the drop down list
- Select "Properties"
- If you wish to print your color copy on paper, the highlighted selection should be either the "automatically select" at the top of the list or the "paper" option.
- If you wish to print a transparency, change the selection to "transparency" (available on crayons only)
- When selection has been made, click on "OK."
- Select the appropriate page/s in the "Page Range" box.
- Select the "Number of Copies."
- Once all of the options available are correct, select "OK."
Your request will then be added to the print queue. You must go to the staff member at the Front Desk to request that your job be released for printing. If you have sent something that should not be printed, the staff member can remove the print request from the queue.
IMPORTANT: Once you have completed the process to send a color print job, go back to "Page Setup" and set the paper source back to "paper" or the default. Also, go back to "Print" and change the printer to Gutenberg. Otherwise, the current settings will be stored in your profile and you could end up printing to the color printer when you do not intend to print in black and white.
